The Western University Mathematics Exposition Competition

2023-24

The Western University Mathematics Exposition Competition is run by the Department of Mathematics to connect to a more general audience and spark interest in studying mathematics at Western. High school teachers, teacher candidates from the Faculty of Education, and senior undergraduate students from Western University can register as mentors for the teams.

Under the supervision of a mentor, teams of 2-3 high school students from Grade 9-12 will work on presenting a their choice of a mathematical concept, which should fall under one of the announced themes by creating either a poster, a video presentation, or a mathematical artifact such as a 3D printed object. Examples of posters and mathematical artifacts and the announced themes can be found on the competition website. The final product created by the team must reflect the students’ research and understanding of the topic. Emphasis will be put on their explanation of the topic at hand.
